A new report from socialist City University of New York’s Hunter College Center for Community Planning states:

“Wal-Mart, the biggest U.S. private employer, kills jobs [1] rather than creates them, drives down wages [2] and is a tax burden because it does not give health and other benefits to many part-time employees [3], leaving a burden on Medicaid and other public program [4].”

1) Manufacturing equipment kills jobs. I guess we should all go back to manufacturing goods by hand, then we will always have 100% employment. (And just think how much “cheaper” all of those hand-made automobiles, dishwashers, computers, etc. will be when they are each individually made by hand instead of the job-killing/mass producing manufacturing equipment.) By the way, how does “the biggest U.S. private employer” kill jobs? Sounds to me like they must have created a lot of jobs since more people in the U.S. have found work at Wal-Mart than at any other company in the country.

2) How else could Wal-Mart offer lower prices than their competitors if they are paying their employees more than the revenue from their lower prices is bringing in? What does the Center think the hourly wage should be for a discount retailer employee? $20 an hour? $40 an hour? $100 an hour?

3) No company “gives” benefits to its employees. They are paid for out of company revenue. Unlike the Federal government, which can create more money out of thin air to lavish its employees with luxurious benefits, a company has to determine what it can afford to pay out of its limited operating expenses each different category of its employees in terms of wages and benefits.

4) What about the corporate taxes that Wal-Mart itself pays to the Federal government? Anyway, it’s not Wal-Mart’s fault that the sheeple have bought into the lie that government should provide health insurance, welfare programs, or—as far as a voluntaryist like myself is concerned—anything.
